Why Eat-to-Win?

Click here for a Letter from Commissioner Farmer
Commissioner Farmer believes Eat to Win (along with other programs) can play a significant role in making Kentucky’s future generations healthier and more successful than preceding generations. Commissioner Farmer also recognizes that students are trend setters, opinion leaders and role models. He believes Kentucky students who engage in healthy eating habits will have a pervasive and positive effect on their families and communities by influencing them to do the same.
The goals of the Eat to Win program are:
- To educate Kentucky students about the importance of incorporating fruits and vegetables into their daily diets, with an end-goal of encouraging them to consume five or more servings per day.
- To encourage Kentucky students to maintain a healthy weight by eating more fruits and vegetables while maintaining a physically active lifestyle.
- To motivate Kentucky students to consume more fruits and vegetables and consume less highly fattening, sweetened foods and beverages.
- To make Kentucky students aware that locally grown fruits and vegetables are best because they are fresher, at their peak for nutrient content, and support their local and state economies.
- Most importantly, to cultivate long-term healthy eating habits among Kentucky students.
Remember, good nutrition isn’t just for athletes. It’s for everyone. Eating five or more servings of fruits and vegetables every day can help you achieve your goals and dreams. In school. In the workplace. And in life. Are you getting your five?
